Later production B5 S4 models were equipped with heavier steel knuckles. The early B5 S4 knuckles are the 4B3-G variants, which means in some way shape or form these are derived from the C5 A6 4.2 (4B3).

Here are the differences as far as I can tell (see pics above for reference) -> The upper A arm is stamped on the B5 and cast on the B4. -> Upper A arm inner bushings are different between the two - B5 are longer and pressed inward, B4 are shorter and pressed outward.
